Trauma-Focused Treatment Treatment

At Canyon Crossing, we recognize that Substance Use Disorders (SUD) and trauma often go hand in hand. Many women who struggle with SUD have experienced some form of trauma in their past. To effectively treat both, we have implemented comprehensive trauma-informed treatment for women in our care.

What is Trauma-Informed Care?Care?

Trauma-informed care is a treatment framework that involves understanding, recognizing, and responding to the effects of all types of trauma. It emphasizes physical, psychological, and emotional safety for both providers and survivors and creates opportunities for survivors to rebuild a sense of control and empowerment.

At Canyon Crossing, this means that we approach all aspects of our treatment programming with an understanding of how trauma affects the individuals we serve. We take into account the profound ways in which trauma can influence one’s behaviors, emotional responses, and relationships.

Trauma-Focused Treatment

Trauma-focused treatment addresses trauma directly and encourages survivors to develop a deeper understanding of the impact it has had on their life. Most women who have come to Canyon Crossing for substance abuse treatment have experienced trauma but may not know they have or understand that what happened to them was trauma.

Underlying trauma can derail abstinence and it often plays a part in relapse. To provide comprehensive healing and relapse prevention, our therapists utilize evidence-based trauma therapies such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). These therapies aim to help women understand and manage their responses to triggers, process traumatic memories, and develop healthier coping mechanisms.

Trauma’s Ripple Effect

Trauma frequently underlies self-sabotaging, destructive, and restrictive behaviors. By addressing and treating trauma, we can create a ripple effect of healing that positively influences the various conditions for which women have sought our guidance at Canyon Crossing. We believe in addressing the root causes of distress rather than just treating the symptoms, fostering a more profound and sustainable healing process.

We create a safe and supportive environment where women can feel understood and accepted. Together, we identify triggers, develop effective coping strategies, and enhance resilience, all of which contribute to overall emotional well-being.
